CAT 2019 Entrance Section Wise Pattern & Marking Scheme

CAT 2019 will be conducted on November 24, Sunday in two sessions which are spread across 156 cities. It is a computer-based test of 3 hours duration in morning and afternoon slots. The exam will be divided into both MCQ and non-MCQ type questions.



CAT 2019 Exam Pattern


  • As discussed, the CAT 2019 Exam will be divided into MCQs and Non-MCQ type questions. MCQs with 1/3 negative marking will be there in CAT 2019 exam. 
  • Some MCQ type questions will carry the negative marking and some mcq will not carry negative marking.
  • The CAT 2019 will be conducted in two separate sessions such as morning and afternoon and the CAT 2019 exam duration remain 3 hours.
  • The conducting body of CAT 2019 exam, IIM Kozhikode has released tutorials to understand the format of CAT 2019 Test and question pattern on the CAT 2019 website on October 16, 2019.
  • CAT 2019 exam will be held in 156 cities across India

Total Questions : 34
Total MCQ with Negative Marking : 24-27
Total non-MCQ with Negative Marking : 7 to 10

DLR

QUANT
Total Questions : 34
Total MCQ with Negative Marking : 23-27
Total non-MCQ with Negative Marking : 7 to 11

As we know, The CAT 2019 Exam has 3 sections: Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension,  Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), Quantitative Ability (QA). As per the exam pattern of CAT 2019, for each section, the allotted time is one hour. While answering questions in the CAT exam 2019, candidates must remember that they are not allowed to switch between sections.

The first section Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension carries 34 questions where MCQ s are 24-27 and non -mcqs are 7-10. The section Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR) covers 32 questions where 28 questions are MCQ and 8 are Non-MCQs. Quantitative Ability (QA) section have 34 questions where MCQs are  28 and Non-MCQs are 8.
